The Basics
1 Label the Lines
The staff has 5 lines. From bottom to top, they spell a sentence: Every Good Boy Does Fine. Write the letter name of each numbered line.
2 Label the Spaces
The 4 spaces between the lines spell a word: FACE. Write the letter name of each numbered space.
3 Name These Notes
Now let's mix it up. Note 2 sits just below the staff on a little line of its own — that's called a ledger line, and it's the note musicians call middle C.
4 Note Values
Every note shape holds its sound for a different amount of time. In the most common meter, 4/4 time, how many beats does each note get?
